It's been quite awhile since the last Nintendo Direct which has left many wondering what's in the pipeline for the WiiU and 3DS. Luckily, Nintendo came out swinging with numerous announcements. If you've been living under a rock or want my insight on the matter than here's a quick summary and analysis of major points in the presentation.
The First Female Link Hyrule Warriors Legends, a port from the original on WiiU, includes a new character called Linkle. Linkle was shown dual wielding crossbows and using her own unique signature move, a spin kick. Hyrule Warriors isn't canonical to the main series but I hope the idea of Linkle won't just be an experiment. The inclusion of being ability to choose a gender with its own preset avatar would be something to new and appreciated in The Legend of Zelda. |
Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow on the 3DS eShop
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the games' original release Nintendo will be releasing Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow for digital download on Feb. 27, 2016. What's even more exciting about this announcement is that trading can be done with a wireless connection rather than link cables.
Fire Emblem Fates Release Date and Special Edition
Fire Emblem Fates Releases on Feb. 19, 2016. It was previously announced that the game will be offered in two versions, Conquest and Birthright. During the Direct they revealed a third campaign called, Revelations, will be available to those who purchase either version. The special edition will include all three stories, an artbook, and 3DS XL pouch for $79.99.
You can tell this approach may have taken a few pages out of the Pokemon playbook. However, this seems even more appealing offering three unique experiences and you're not forced to buy the other versions if you choose to do so.

Star Fox Zero Release Date Star Fox Zero for the Wii U will release on April 22, 2016. The game was delayed from its initial holiday 2015 release. Some may have been disappointed at the lack of content on Wii U this year but it could be seen as the developers taking their time to truly polish their game. This could especially be the case due to the criticism that revolved around its E3 showing.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD & Zelda Wii U Footage Originally on Gamecube and Wii in 2006, Twilight Princess will be available on Wii U in HD on March 4, 2016. Along with the gameplay shown for Twilight Princess was a short scene of Link riding Epona in the upcoming Zelda game for Wii U. Although this announcement is greatly appreciated I personally feel disappointed at the fact that this appears to be merely a slight resolution and texture update as opposed to a full overhaul of previous re-releases like Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time.
Cloud Strife in Super Smash Bros. Final Fantasy VII's main protagonist, Cloud Strife, will join the roster for Super Smash Bros. on 3DS and Wii U. No release date was revealed as of now but promises to reveal more in December were made. Cloud is a beloved character among many gamers and is sure to be welcomed as a new addition to the franchise. Personally, this announcement was the biggest highlight of the presentation. |
